Spotlight: Starr Hill Brewery

Starr Hill Brewery is celebrating a decade in business.  Master Bewer Mark Thompson opened Starr Hill at the same Charlottesville location where Virginia’s first craft beer was produced.  Since that time, Starr Hill’s brews have won multiple awards at the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup.

Spotlight: Williamsburg Winery

Over the course of the next few weeks, we’ll spotlight the fine Virginia wineries and breweries participating in this year’s Wine & Beer Classic.  First on the list: Williamsburg Winery.

Williamsburg Winery is the state’s largest winery, accounting for almost a quarter of all wine produced in the state of Virginia!  The winery is perhaps best known for their award-winning Governor’s White, its first wine produced (which won a Gold Medal two weeks after its initial release in 1988).

Williamsburg Winery is located less than an hour from Richmond, perfectly situated for a winery tour and tasting.   Visit on a Thursday night, and you can enjoy a special food & wine pairing at the winery’s restaurant, the Gabriel Archer Tavern. If you choose to spend the night or the weekend, the Wedmore Place at Williamsburg Winery offers luxe accommodations.

12th Annual Wine & Beer Classic

Maymont’s Dooley Noted Society is making plans for the 12th annual Wine & Beer Classic, to be held at Maymont Friday, September 11, 2009 from 7 to 10:30 p.m.  Mark your calendars for this signature event!

The Wine & Beer Classic will feature tastings from Virginia wineries and breweries, as well as food, music, and a Popping Good Fundraiser.
